The Truth About Single Parent Grants
Have you ever gotten into a situation where you are short for money and had to choose between making a bill payment or buying food to feed your children? Many single parents have gotten themselves into this position at one point or another and if you have children and you are raising them on your own then most likely you have had to apply for a single parent grant.
Many of you out there know that not having money or being in debt can be very hard on the nerves and cause depression, stress and lack of sleep. Anyone who has ever had any friends or co-workers who are single parents have most likely heard at one point or another “My washing machine broke and I have no money.” It is horrible to even think about a single parent who's washing machine has broken and they can't even do their children’s laundry.
This person is trying their best to put food on the table for their kids and having to wash clothes by hand or having to spend the rent or food money on a day at the launderette. When you think about it, falling into debt is very easy, even for someone who is not a single parent. When a person needs a washer or a stove, or even a birthday gift for one of the kids, the loan agencies are very tempting, even though you know that you will most likely spend the next 5 or 10 years trying to pay them back.
There are places that a single parent can go for assistance in these matters. In the UK there is a place called the Family Welfare Association (FWA) Grants Service that helps people when emergency situations have arisin, they have what is called a single parent grant. The FWA will even help with fuel bills, clothes (especially the kids clothing) household appliances such as washing machines, beds, stoves.
The only thing that they cannot help with are funeral expenses, private school fees, council tax fines, rent arrears or repayment of social funds. Applications for a single parent grant can only be made by a professional such as a doctor, health nurse or social worker
The guidelines for the U.S states that no matter what the situation, all single parent families qualify for government assistance, they CAN NOT be turned down because of the children, especially people that are in dire straights. Now to apply for a single parent grant, the single parent first has to fill out a form that they can obtain from the city hall.
The information that is needed on these forms should be answered honestly and be completely filled out because the information that you submit on this form will determine whether you are eligible for the assistance that you need.
Finally, this assistance applies to all of the single-parent families where the other parent has abandoned the family for approximately a year. This time frame has been stated because, by law, it is only after said year that abandonment can be legally and officially claimed
