New Mexico – New Mexico Single Parent Grants for Low Income Families

Childcare Assistance

If you are a single parent then you are probably in a position where you need to work in order to cover all of the costs and take care of all of the responsibilities that come with running a family. Single parents almost always are in this position.

However, although having a job can ease the burden of some problems it can increase the burden of others. If you are working you will need to try and find quality childcare services for your child or children if they are too young to go to school. Childcare is not something that you are going to find cheaply. In fact the prices are likely to be well out of your budget. On the other hand the care of your child is not something you want to compromise on. Luckily there are some programs in place that offer subsidies for childcare in the state of New Mexico.

Children, Youth and Families Department

Because childcare can be such an expensive thing to afford the state of New Mexico has instituted the Children, Youth and Families Department which is a department aimed at given aftercare to the children of New Mexico, among other things. It is essentially a program that is aimed at intervening in situations where children seem to be being neglected and tries to prevent this kind of neglect form taking place in families where parents have no choice but to work.

Healthcare Assistance

If you are trying to be a good parent then one of the things that you absolutely have to be sure to do is to make sure that you keep the health of your child at the top of your priority list. There are few things that are more important that making sure that your child is in good health. This may mean that you need to get a health insurance plan to cover your child’s costs if anything goes wrong. This is something that is not generally easy for single parents to achieve. The cost of private health insurance is very high and single parents are usually to be found in bad financial situations where they may not be able to cover the costs of such care and plans. Fortunately there are several schemes and options available in the state of New Mexico to help low income families such as these.

One option that is available to low income families (such as single parents families) in the state of New Mexico is Medicaid. This is a subsidy program that is offered by the state. Basically you will not be receiving free health insurance with Medicaid, but you will be receiving health insurance at a cost that suits your pocket. This is not however always easy to qualify for. The services that you will be eligible for with Medicaid are in-patient hospitalization, dental care, immunization, and x-ray tests. The least you can do is find out whether or not you are eligible.

NewMexiKids and NewMexiTeens

There are other options that are open to you if you are not eligible to be covered by Medicaid. Two of these options are NewMexiKids and NewMexiTeens which, as the names suggests, are health insurance schemes that aim to cover children and teenagers whose parents are unable to afford private health insurance. Note however that this is not a free medical coverage service; it is merely subsidized so that low income families such as families headed by single parents will be able to pay for their children to have adequate health care coverage. Visit Insure New Mexico for more information.

There are not, unfortunately, a lot of option out there for single parents who are looking for an affordable way to get from point A to point B. Unfortunately there are simply no affordable transport structures in place. The best advice that we can give is that you make use of the excellent public transport system available in the state.

If you qualify for Medicaid then you may be in luck because in some cases Medicaid offers non-emergency medical transport. This may include things like getting your children to their doctor’s check-ups and making sure that they are able to make it to their dentist’s appointment. However like with all thing related to Medicaid this is not always an easy program to qualify for and you may find that you will struggle to get a response from them when you ask. However it is still well worth trying this avenue and it will make your life considerably easier if you do qualify.
