Kansas – Tips for Finding Kansas Single Parent Grants

Childcare Assistance

As a single parent it is of paramount importance that you work in order to support your family. There is no way around this. As a result you may be worried about who will take care of your children while you are at work.

This is especially true for children who are not yet old enough to go to school. Affording quality childcare while you are at work is not always easy, and finding a sitter on a regular basis can in some ways be even harder. However there are several measures in place in Kansas that aim to ensure that your child gets quality care.

Child Care Subsidy Program

An option open in Kansas to parents who have insufficient resources is the Child Care Subsidy Program. This is a program that is designed to provide subsidies for childcare to single parents who meet the appropriate criteria. The program aims to ensure that children of single parents are properly cared for. However the assistance is only temporary and designed to last until you are able to afford the childcare services on your won. For more information about this program, please visit the Child Care Subsidy Program.

Healthcare Assistance

When you are a single parent there are a lot of demands on your resources and time. However one thing that you have to keep at the top of your priority list is the health of your child or children. There is nothing more important than keeping your child healthy. This is something that you cannot afford to compromise on. It is well known that health insurance is far from being cheap to afford. Therefore there are a number of systems in place in Kansas to ensure that children receive sufficient healthcare treatment if and when they need it.

There are several subsidized health insurance packages in place for families who are not able to afford health insurance from a private source. One of these plans is called Medicaid and you have probably already heard of it as it is a very well known plan. However you may also have been put off finding out more by the fact that this is a notoriously difficult medical insurance plan to qualify for. It is necessary however that you take the time to research all of your options. This includes finding out if you are eligible for Medicaid or not. You may be pleasantly surprised when you call to find out. It can’t hurt to ask, and if you do get Medicaid then you will be in a secure position when it comes to the health of your child. It is worth asking about, at the very least, and you can lose nothing by trying.

Kansas Health Insurance Association (KHIA)

If you have been denied coverage through the normal channels then you may want to consider looking into the options offered by the Kansas Health Insurance Association (KHIA). If you look into this you will find that many people who cannot get coverage any other way are using the Kansas Health Insurance Association (KHIA) to make sure that they and their children are covered. For more information, visit http://www.khiastatepool.com/. The worst thing that can happen is that you will be turned down by the program. It is still worth trying to see whether or not you qualify, and if you do, then all the better.

If you are a single parent that falls into a moderate income bracket then you may be eligible for HealthWave, another one of the subsidized healthcare plans that are available in the state of Kansas. It can’t hurt to ask about this plan. It is well worth your while to go and find out if you qualify for this or not.

One of the more annoying costs that a single parent has to worry about is that of transport. It is very difficult to find affordable transport to get yourself and your family to and from all of the places that you need to be. There are not a lot of options available for single mothers who are trying to find more affordable ways to get transport. There are however a few ways that you can save money in this regard. For example you could choose to use public transport instead of driving your own car or instead of taking an expensive cab.

One option that you may have in terms of transport may be Medicaid. You may find this surprising, but in some cases Medicaid does offer non-emergency medical transport. For example if you need to get to a doctor’s exam but don’t know how, Medicaid may be able to help. You will have to qualify for Medicaid and have a Medicaid health insurance plan. You will also on top of that have to qualify for the non-emergency transport option. Despite these difficulties it is well worth finding out more about for Medicaid policy holders. It can’t hurt to ask.

Rent / Housing Assistance

A very important part of being a good parent is making sure that your child has a good and safe home to grow up in. This is easier said than done and represents yet another complication and stresses single parents have to deal with. Homes are not easy to either rent or buy at the moment, so it is not necessarily an easy thing to make sure that your child has a good home. That is why in Kansas there are a number of systems that are in place to help single parents and other low income families afford a home.

Housing Choice Voucher Program

If you are looking for a way to cover your rent or to buy a house then you may be interested in finding out more about the Housing Choice Voucher program. This is a program that helps single parents and other low income families to cover their rent and find a home. However it must be noted that the assistance that you receive form the Housing Choice Voucher program is designed to be temporary. For example you may be helped with three months’ rent while you look for another job that will allow you to become self-sufficient again. Basically a subsidy is paid directly to your landlord on your behalf so that you will not have to make the full payment yourself. It is something well worth considering.

Food & Supplies / Nutritional Assistance

One of the more frequent problems that single parents face is that of putting enough food on the table. The quantity of the food they can provide is important, but so is the quality. It is essential that your children receive food that is nutritious. Bad nutrition is linked to a number of health problems, and you do not want your child being one of the many children with problems of this kind. In Kansas there are several programs in place to help single mothers provide food to their children. You just need to know where to look.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

If you are looking for food assistance in Kansas then you may want to consider starting with the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) organization. The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) aims to provide children from needy families with enough nutritious food to lead healthy and productive lives. The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) can be found working all over the country and, if you meet the eligibility requirements, this program could make life a good deal easier for you. The least you can do is try to find out whether or not you qualify.

Education Grants

I am trying to help my daughter, who is a single parent of two children. She has already managed to get her oldest child into college through grants & loans. However, she has purchased a home within the last two years, that was more or less sold to her fraudenetly due to the problems she has encountered since. She wants desperately to bring her home up to today’s spec’s but does not have the means to do so. Is there a grant out there that can assist her in doing so?
