Although there are a lot of factors that can discourage a single mom and dad from going back to school, such as the additional cost and time required, once you have received your degree you will be able to get a better job with increased pay. The following will provide you with a few examples of the many Indiana single parent grants for returning to school.

The state of Indiana has some of the best scholarship opportunities in the country, with many of these programs being targeted to single moms and dads in order to help them better themselves and their children. As such there are many organizations that are offering Indiana single parent grants, such as the Linda Craig Memorial Scholarship which is aimed towards individuals working on their first degree in an Indiana based college or university. The Minority Teacher Scholarship was started by the Indiana General Assembly in order to produce a larger number of African American and Hispanic public school teachers.

Another one of the main programs offered in the state of Indiana for going to college is the Hoosier Scholarship. This program is offered to first year students on a merit basis and amounts roughly to $500. It may not be a lot, but it is a grant that is relatively easy to earn, and every little bit helps. Other programs such as the Nursing Scholarship Fund can provide funding for specialized fields of study such as medicine. In order to qualify for these grants you will have to be pursuing a degree in that specific field.

There are several other programs that are currently being offered in the state such as the Indiana Broadcasters Foundation Scholarship for undergraduates pursuing a degree in journalism or broadcasting, the Indiana Engineering Scholarship which awards $750 to 3 engineering students each year, the Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Excel Awarded in the amount of $2,000 to $3,000, and the Robert Byrd Honors Scholarship which is awarded to a massive number of students; between 550 to 570 students receive this award each year.

In order to qualify for any of the above mentioned Indiana single parent grants, you will first have to fill out the FAFSA form, which can be done either online or at the financial aid office at your college. Once this is finished your college will be able to tell you which programs you qualify for and whether they have any scholarships they recommend applying for. Some programs are very difficult to be accepted for because they have a large number of applications and only so much money that they are able to distribute.
