Various Facts About Single Parenting
Single Parenting Do’s and Don’ts
Being a single parent is the hardest thing any one person could ever do. There are several facts about single parenting that every current parent or parent to be needs to learn and I hope that I will be able to share with you some single parenting tips that will help you to overcome a few of the obstacles that stand in your way as a single parent.
Let us face facts that one single parenting tip will never suffice but if I have to give just one then that is simply to be patient. Not just patient with your child but with yourself. One of the facts about single parenting is that your child will push your limits. It is their job to test your boundaries and I am sorry to say that this rarely ends. You are the sole caretaker which means the child will only have to deal with one of you instead of two so your word is law despite any tantrum that may arise.
Nutrition is a key that many parents feel they do not have time to address. They do not mean to ignore it – just sort of happens. The days are not nearly as long as you would like them to be and when you least expect it you are faced with no food on the table and a hungry child so the first thing you wind up turning to is pizza or fast food. McDonald’s and Pizza Hut are not a substitute for good meals.
Being a single parent is all about time management. Younger children always a little easy to manage as they go down for naps a few times during the day and in those times you can catch up on TV while you prepare meals that you can package individually to freeze for easy nuking later on. The same goes with house work and if you are someone who likes to work out you can throw your work out into the times you are cleaning or playing with your child. Remember – time management.
A single parent fact is the hating to ask for help or being afraid to accept help. You figure you had your child alone therefore you can manage the situation just fine yourself. Get that thought out of your head because it is double-tough to raise a child and you need time of your own. Get a babysitter from a service, a family friend or family member – if your child’s wellbeing is ever questioned or you are panic-stricken at the thought of leaving them with someone who is not you then look into getting a nanny cam so you can see everything that is going on.
Another fact about single parenting is the child will always question you about their mother or father. One single parenting tip I can give easily is to never lie to your child – no matter the circumstances but take heed though. Just because you should not lie does not mean you should tell them every juicy detail. If you have a young child around 2 or 4 years old you will not tell them that your ex slept with someone else and you divorced and you certainly should never tell them the other parent did not want them. Doing either of these things will simply set you up for problematic behavior later on.
